Westfries Museum

When you are in Hoorn, make sure not miss the Westfries Museum. The museum is housed in one of the most beautiful monuments of Hoorn, located on the central city square: the Roode Steen. The museum is bigger than the richly decorated façade suggests. You can therefore easily spend two hours inside.

Collection Westfries Museum

The entire collection of the Westfries Museum contains over 30,000 objects. Together, they show the public the rich cultural history of the West-Friesland region. The most important period between 1500 and 1800 is shown, showing the start, bloom and aftermath of The Golden Age.

Discover the masterpieces route

In the museum, a special route has been set out that leads you through 25 rooms. Each room has its own character and highlights its own subject in history. In the museum, the most beautiful and interesting objects have been highlighted. You will find background information about the masterpiece in the explanatory hall texts. But it is also possible to get the explanation via an audio tour, which is available at the desk of the museum.
